The purpose of mica for a microwave is to protect the magnetron and waveguide from high temperatures, as well as from moisture and grease. It is made from dielectric material. Additionally, the mica screen helps distribute emitted microwaves evenly throughout the chamber. A signal that the mica sheet has become unusable is sparking and a lack of heating during operation. It is strongly advised not to use the microwave with a burnt mica plate, as this can lead to further malfunctions and significant financial costs.
